Firefox Problems
Firefox
Firefox

There are times when you start having problems with firefox that leave you a bit flummoxed. You’ve uninstalled/reinstalled, but that doesn’t fix the problem. You may have perhaps even rolled back to an earlier version to find the problem goes away, but that information doesn’t really help you much because it doesn’t fix your problem with the latest version that you’d like to use.

You’re problem is most likely a corrupted profile. Here’s what you do…

If you’re in firefox now, either open this page in Internet Explorer or copy/paste the text of this post into notepad. Then, close firefox.

For Vista users, click start. Then in the start search field type:

firefox.exe -ProfileManager

For XP users, click start, click run, then enter the text above. Hit enter.

You should see this pop up:

ffprofile

Here you can create, rename, or even delete a profile. The recommended next step is to create a new profile, naming it whatever you want. Click finish when you’re done. You should be back at the “Choose Profile” screen, with both your old and your new profile listed. Select your new profile, then click “start firefox.” You will now be working from your new profile each time you start firefox. At this point you can test whatever problem your having against this new profile. Chances are your problem will no longer be present.

Note: to switch back to your old profile, just repeat the steps above, and just select your old profile, allowing you to export your bookmarks if you haven’t already.

Cheers! 8)
